FALCONS LOSE TO SHARKS 7-3
February 28, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Worcester Sharks 7-3 on Saturday night at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. The Falcons will next host the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday.
The Sharks opened the scoring at 6:18 of the first period when P.J. Fenton scored to give Worcester a 1-0 lead. The Falcons tied the score at 1-1 when Charles Linglet scored at 6:45 of the opening frame. The Sharks regained a lead at 2-1 when T.J. Fox tallied a shorthanded marker at 11:15 of the first period.
Late in the opening session, Worcester's Brad Staubitz sucker-punched Falcons' captain Tim Sestito in the back of the head drawing a major penalty and a game misconduct.
In the second period, Worcester expanded their lead to 3-1 at 3:37 when Lukas Kaspar scored on the power play. Ryan Vesce tallied a shorthanded marker at 8:14 of the second period giving the Sharks a 4-1 advantage, Worcester's second shorthanded goal of the contest. Springfield pulled within 4-2 at 13:06 of the middle frame when Sestito scored his fifth goal of the year.
The Sharks took complete control of the game in the third period as Fenton scored his second goal of the game at 10:38 expanding the Sharks lead to 5-2. Worcester went up 6-2 at 17:36 of the final period when Matt Farnataro scored at 17:36, followed by Fenton capping off his hat trick at 18:37 of the third period. Geoff Paukovich converted late for Springfield ending the scoring on the night.

DENIS GREBESHKOV ACTIVATED FROM NHL INJURED RESERVE
THEO PECKAHM ASSIGNED TO SPRINGFIELD
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have activated defenceman Denis Grebeshkov from the NHL Injured Reserve List and assigned defenceman Theo Peckham to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Grebeshkov missed seven games (February 14-26) due to a lower body injury suffered during the second period of the Oilers’ 7-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens at Rexall Place on February 11th.
Grebeshkov has scored 4-21-25 in 51 games this season to rank eighth in scoring on the Oilers and fourth among Edmonton defencemen.
Peckham, who was recalled from the Oilers’ AHL affiliate on February 13th, has played nine games with Edmonton this season and is scoreless with 43 penalty minutes.
The Oilers conclude their four-game homestand tonight as they host the Minnesota Wild at Rexall Place at 8:00 p.m.
