ATKINSON EXTENDS STREAK
Cam Atkinson collected a point for the fifth-straight game (2g-6a) on Saturday with his first-period goal. Atkinson has a goal or an assist in 14 of the last 15 games (9g-13a). The Greenwich, Conn. native posted his 49th goal in his 88th game as a Falcon, breaking a tie with Ryan Craig for ninth in team history in that department. Atkinson’s next target on the Falcons’ goal-scoring list is Scott Levins, who registered 52 goals in 147 games with Springfield. The second-year pro is third in the league with 38 points and is tied for fourth with 17 goals. The power-play goal was his sixth, tying Craig for the team lead.
CRAIG MAKES IT FOUR
Ryan Craig’s goal-scoring streak ended at three games, but the 10th-year pro and Springfield captain now has points in four-straight games (3g-1a) after notching an assist on Atkinson’s goal on Saturday. Craig celebrates his 31st birthday today.
POWER-PLAY PRODUCES AGAIN
The Falcons scored on the power play for the fourth-straight game on Saturday. Springfield had gone three-consecutive contests prior to this current stretch without a power-play goal. The Falcons suffered a rare loss when converting on the man advantage, as Springfield is now 17-4-1-1 when scoring a power-play goal.
The Falcons underwent just their fourth loss of the season by more than a goal on Saturday. Springfield has not dropped a game by more than three goals this season. The Falcons’ last loss by four or more goals was a 6-2 defeat to Bridgeport on Mar. 30, 2012. Springfield was held to under two goals for the fifth time this year. The Falcons have not been shut out since Mar. 9, 2012.
STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
The Falcons remained winless in the middle game of a three-in-three stretch this season, falling to 0-2-1-2.
Springfield dropped to 4-4-1-2 in Saturday action this season.
Although the Falcons have struggled on Saturdays, Springfield has had plenty of success on the final day of the weekend, with a 7-1-0-0 Sunday record this season.
Springfield was perfect on the penalty kill on Saturday for the 16th time in 31 games in 2012-2013.
OBEYING THE LAW
The Falcons remain the only team in the league without a 10-minute or a game misconduct this season. Springfield is the only team without a 10-minute misconduct and is one of just five teams without a game-ending infraction.
